xx New problems on old LAN
« Thread started on: Apr 11th, 2014, 8:42pm »

Computers A,B and C running win7, win 8.1 and win 8.1 are all running stickies 7.1e. (B and C are new ASUS laptops replacing XP machines. Stickies worked for many years with existing router and LAN on A and the predecessors to B and C.)

Networking is selected on all three as is "Use DNS". All three can ping each other (A can ping B and C, B can ping A and C and C can ping A and B). A can send/recieve stickies to/from B and C, B can send/receive stickies to/from A and C. C can send/receive to/from A but only receive from B.

I have searched through the forum postings since 2006 but did not find suggestions that helped. I have checked the firewalls and find nothing preventing communication. I have also flushed the DNS Resolver Caches. I would be most appreciative of any suggestions on what to investigate next.

Many thanks! John

Apparently resolved by turning "on" printer sharing on computer B.

Interesting - I wonder whether that change also allows some more incoming network connections, or whether it's connected with name resolution.

In any case, it's good to have the solution here for if anyone else needs it, thanks.

Do you have it also enabled on the other PC's or is B the exception?
Do you use windows firewall or a third party one?

Thanks it is interesting as it can be very useful.

Printer sharing is (now) enabled on all three computers. I am using Panda firewall on all three computers.
