xx Edit a skin - no valid bitmap error
« Thread started on: Yesterday at 01:32am »

Hello,

ich want to edit the "stickies6posted.ssk" skin (just make the borders bigger). So i loaded it into the skinner and changed the borders as i like it. Then i save it.

If i load this edited skin again in the skinner it says "An error occurred loading the skin. Are you sure the skin has a valid bitmap?"

What can i do to fix it? I did not change anything with bitmaps, i just edited the borders. How can i save the edited skin with the bitmap from the template?

The file you first opened in Skinner is named stickies6posted.ini.
First try this. Make sure that the bitmap is in the same location - on the desktop, for example - as the file stickies6posted.ini. They must be together in the same file in order for the bitmap to load correctly in the Skinner. If they are not together in the same file, the error message - "An error occurred loading the skin. Are you sure the skin has a valid bitmap?" - will occur.

Please let us know how it turns out.

Hey Cynthia,

thank you for for answer.
The problem is that i do not have an "stickies6posted.ini" In the download section was only an "stickies6posted.ssk" file. So how do i get the .ini file?

What procedure did you follow to first open the skin inside Skinner? Did you drag it in? smiley I wish it was that easy!

Here is how to properly open a skin inside Skinner.
1. The ssk file is really a zip compressed file. To see it as .zip, simply rename it. So rename it to stickies6posted.zip. Then unzip it.
2. There are two files inside the folder - stickies6posted.ini and a bitmap file named stickies6posted.bmp. Usually what I do next is drag the two files out of the folder and onto the desktop. I'm going to assume that you're are putting the two files on your desktop.
3. Now you will be able to open stickies6posted.ini inside Skinner. Make your changes to the margins and save the file to your desktop.
(The ini file should be saved to the same location from where you opened it.)
Keeping Skinner open, do this extra thing - using the file menu, choose "Export to ssk."
4. That's it. The modified ssk should now be on your desktop. Try it out to see whether you like the changes.
