I keep several stickies on my desktop with my calendar and reminders.

On a few occasions when I have lost a Stickie I've been able to restore using Manage Stickies.

A few days ago my computer mother board died. My hard drive is fine and today I got an adaptor that allows me to read the drive through a USB port on my laptop.

I was able to find the Stickies application in Program Files and I am able to open new Stickies but I cannot find the old ones.

When I open Manage Stickies the only one I can find is today's Welcome as if I was using Stickies for the first time.

Do my old Stickies still exist in a file someplace on the hard drive? If so, where? And how do I get them back?

Can you find your Stickies data file on your desktop's hard drive? The location of my data file is
C:\Users\Cynthia\AppData\Roaming\stickies\
and it looks like this inside.

If you have accumulated a lot of Stickies data on your laptop which you don't want to lose, then you could use SSIT to see into the Stickies data file on the desktop's hard drive. SSIT can be used to retrieve your lost data. The SSIT download is found here
http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/tools.html
and it includes instructions.
