xx lost stickies recovery
« Thread started on: Mar 16th, 2014, 09:47am »

I've been having computer problems lately with multiple blue screen crashes. Yesterday all my stickies seemed to be erased. After reading this forum I installed the SSIT program. It seems to see the stickies with 6 in recurring and 1 sleeping.
The titles display correctly but all the information appears to be in code. When I click send to stickies it sends them to the closed directory. Is all the information lost? Thank you.

Which of the backup files are you opening with SSIT please - and do the contents look messed up in SSIT, or in Stickies?

After a while, the backup files are overwritten by Stickies taking new backups, so it might be worth taking a copy now of the files you're opening in SSIT so that you keep access to the contents!

The only SSIT files that had information were stickies.1wk and stickies.24h . The SSIT shows two columns: property and value. The values are all numbers, for instance sleepnextwake reads 1394935200. But when I click send to stickies it opens on the desktop but without the recurring information and when I close it, it's stored in the closed directory. Thank you.

Well it going to the Closed category when you close it makes sense! That's doing just what it should!

So you mean that although you can get the sticky contents back, you also like to be able to pull out the Recurring information from the backup file?

Yes. Do I need to make a backup to save that? Thanks.

No, that information is in the backup files (.24h or .1wk) that you're opening, but SSIT doesn't pull it out to send to Stickies. Most people who need to restore are looking for their content back, so I wrote SSIT to concentrate on that.

You could get the whole note brought back by editing the file, along with stickies.ini, in notepad, while Stickies is closed ... or at some point I could extend SSIT to handle the additional info in sleeping/recurring notes!

Tom did you ever get around to extending SSIT capabilities to pull 'all data' associated with each sticky in sleeping/recurring...so as to send to a new stickies install for populating with the lost data?

No I didn't but then if you've a new install, you'd just take the whole data directory and either copy it across to the new machine, or use the Restore feature with it (which does the same thing).

That would get everything across, all data, settings and schedules in one operation.
