xx Stickies is unresponsive
« Thread started on: Mar 3rd, 2017, 5:26pm »

I have been using Stickies 9.0a since last October and it has been working just fine. I am using it on a Windows 10 system which is fully updated.
Yesterday, it became unresponsive. I tried rebooting my system to no avail. After several reboots with no improvement, I uninstalled stickies 9.0a and downloaded and installed version 9.0d. The problem continues.
The symptoms are: the stickies icon is in the task bar notifications section but is unresponsive. I cannot create new stickies or manage existing ones.
Task manager shows stickies 9.0d as running and consuming 10% to 15% of the CPU.
I had stickies using a custom location for its data to make it easier for me to manage. When I installed stickies 9.0d it should have started over in <user>/AppData/Roaming/stickies. Neither the standard location nor the custom location show any indication of being used--i.e., the last modified dates on the files are unchanged.
I have no clue as to what to do to fix the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated. TIA

Stickies when idle has 0% cpu use on my win10 system.I would backup the stickes directory and delete all data files in it :
c:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\stickies\

and do a clean install.Reinstalling stickies does not overwrite existing data files so if one is corrupt it will not solve the problem.

I hope you have the autobackup on so you can "restore" a previous backup if needed otherwise i hope it is your lucky day smiley !

Best of luck (and check you backed up stickies properly !)

Thank you for the suggestion.
I went back and uninstalled using Revo Uninstaller rather than the Windows control panel uninstaller. This allowed me to clean up the registry and delete the left over files that Revo found. Then, I reinstalled Stickies; deleted the current stickies data and went back to the prior day's backup. That one still didn't work but the day before's did work, albeit with about 100 orphaned files. So, I lost about a day and an half of new stickie notes which is not as bad as it could have been.
Thanks again for your support. I consider this case closed.

You can still try to recover these from the "bad" backup. If they are text files that where desktop stickies you can find them in the rtf directory and open them in wordpad. You can copy/paste the ones you want new stickies.
