« Thread started on: Oct 1st, 2017, 04:26am »

.
I have Stickies 9.0d. I would like the text font size in the title bar to be the same as in version 8.0c.

How do I do that?

Thanks.

Not everyone likes the look of v9 Stickies sadly, which is why I've included the skin for v8 with the installer.

To set all your notes back to their old look, open Options, then click the Appearance tab. Click the "Skin..." button and choose the v8 skin from the list.

Click OK, then OK, and your current and new notes will all be set to use the v8 skin.

Or you could modify any skin to your liking. Using the Stickies Skinner, you could increase the font size of text elements or make other changes you want. Here's a link to the skinner; http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/skins/skinner.html

I think they look beautiful smiley

Unfortunately, I prefer things to look "functional" (AKA Unix).

Also, half of my stickies consist only of title text. So, the massive default font plus the centre justification plus the poncy grey bar at the left take up a lot of space just to write "More beer" smiley

That's what I've been doing. That produces the tiny font sad

BTW: The SSK file produces satisfactory results on my 10-month old Vostro. My complaint refers to my new Asus. Both machines have Win 10 Pro. The Asus has an SSD.

I tried setting the universal zoom factor in the Asus Control Panel > Display to 150%, which suits me for browsers. But I think the zoom affects only the HTML - and does not affect text in programs or apps.

I'm trying that now. Because of the edit restrictions in the Program Files (x86) folder I copied the SSK file to my D: drive, and unzipped it there.

I made the modifications, re-zipped the file, and renamed to SSK. When I try to overwrite the current SSK file I'm given the "duplicate name" warning, which I accept. However, the modified file is silently not accepted, leaving the original file unchanged.

Maybe I should re-install Stickies in a different folder on my C: drive, rather than any of the Program Files folders?

Please advise.

Thanks.

When you have the skin (.ini file) open in Skinner, make the changes you want, then save .ini under a different name than the original. After saving it under a different name, export it to ssk. The resulting .ssk file will bear the same name as the .ini file with the new name. Next you should be able to place the newly named .ssk into your Stickies folder. Or not! Please let us know.

Wait. You like the default skin, right? It's the default skin you're trying to modify? That skin supports DPI. Modifying that skin to your liking may be trickier. Here's a link to one I already modified and have shared earlier here at the forum.

Unless you understand skins pretty well, changing the skin I've already modified is easier than changing the original.

Thanks for your two responses.

I'm not sure. I've already altered the font size of a copy of "stickies8.ssk" to a satisfactory value, using your second-last response.

As a result, the lowest descender of the title bar text now touches the lower line of the title bar. So I need to move that line down a bit.

I've experimented with some attributes, but I can't identify the element/attribute that I need to modify.

Can you help me with that?

Thanks.

The Stickies 8 skin? Right. Looks like you'll need to change the top position of the text box, make the title bar a little longer, move the top line underneath the title bar down, move the top of the scrollbar down also. It's more involved than I imagined. What size font did you change the title to?

Aha, you're running at 150%, got it.

There are two ways to get this sorted. The first, "proper" way is to edit the skin so that the elements are just the right size. That way, the text will look beautiful on your scaled device, and everything will be the size you like.

The second quick 'n' dirty way is to change the compatibility settings for Stickies to set system DPI scaling. Much faster, but you will lose a little font definition. Right-click the shortcut you use to start Stickies, and make that change on the Compatibility tab.

Oh, I suppose there's a third way to sort this problem out at least temporarily - drink so much more beer that you don't give a rats about the title bar size wink

I changed to 12pt. I think 11pt would also work.

Note that I said earlier that the zoom does not seem to affect the appearance of a sticky on any of my laptops. The dimensions, title text, and body text do not change with the zoom.

That produced an improvement. smiley

I'll try that for a few days.

That works fine too. But it's expensive, and I keep banging my head on the keyboard smiley

Last night I saw a post from Cynthia containing a link to a Sticky definition that might solve my title font problems.

I seem to have deleted this post - I can't see it this morning.

Could someone please repost the link.

Thanks.

The title has the 11 pt font in this modified skin. I adjoined an hstrip to Tom's title bar to make it a little bit taller, and made a few other adjustments.

Liar.smiley No, it didn't work great! I completely lost the stack and I forgot to make the roll up presentable.

It's better now, but I'm pretty sure I forgot other things too. Anyway, try it again please.
