Hi there

I just found bart and it seems to do nice things I always wanted.

What it doesn't seem to do is dealing well with variables. Like to write the path like "%APPDATA%\folder\". bart tells me, there are no % allowed. But how can I deal with folders located inside user profiles, where the username is part of the path? %username% has % too undecided

Any good ideas about that?

Thanks a lot

Hi there,

I don't think I ever anticipated that Bart would be used in that way. Seeing as it's an interactive application, it's usually going to be run by one user, and so a variable path isn't going to be needed.

That made it simpler to ban the percent character than to try to handle the variables which someone might like to use.

Can you explain a little more about what you want to be able to do, and perhaps I can help that happen? When do you need to use a variable where you're not able to instead use the absolute path?

Hi Tom

So here is my "problem": I am preparing some Office template files for my co-workers and update them from time to time. Our tech guy tried to set up shared folders for that but was causing more problems.

Now I plan to "bart" those files to their profile folders and whenever they log in (even if they switch computers), the files are placed in the right spot. But for that, the absolute path does not work.
If Bart can't, I may need to use a batch file to read the username and then create a job file for bart to execute. I guess smiley

Your thoughts?

Is this a script which will run when they log in?

If that's the case, I'd actually look at running "xcopy /d" to only update new files. xcopy will honour the %USERNAME% variable I'm pretty sure. Yes, Bart could do the work, but it seems a little over the top for the job, if I've understood it correctly?

Oh right, xcopy. Always forgetting that, so I may have a look into that.

Bart is just too cool for handling the different locations wink

I will try. Thanks so far,
Daniel
