xx Unable to stat file
« Thread started on: Sep 13th, 2013, 03:51am »

I connect an external drive and run a job file which includes Source=D:, Destination=X:\Bart D and these exceptions: D:\pagefile.sys, D:\$RECYCLE.BIN and D:\System Volume Information.

After running it, there are no errors reported, but in the log file there is a red entry saying "Unable to stat D:\pagefile.sys".

If I leave out that exception, of course I get an entry saying that the file cannot be be copied, it is in use, hence my exception.

What does stat mean (if it's not an error) and can the entry be made to go away?

Could you try the build here please:

http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/bart/bart301.zip

First, the "stat" means "getting the details of the file", namely the name, size, modified time, and whether it's hidden or system.

So, it's safe to ignore, as you don't have permission to that file by default, which is why the stat fails.

However, if the file is on your exclusion list, it should be completely excluded, end of story, which is why I went to the code to make the change. While I was there, I actually found a bug which means that if you add a file to the exclusion list after a job has already copied it, Bart won't then remove it from the destination, which it should do!

So, could you try the above, and let me know whether it no longer reports the "stat" error?

As always, that makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, the link you give goes to some site to do with registering domain names. I tried it in Firefox and Chrome with the same result.

Once that's sorted I shall try the revised version straight away.

Thanks. With Bart 3.01 my job file ran and completed without the "unable to stat" message. I did not try to test the other improvement relating to late added exclusions.

Thanks for sorting this so quickly.
