xx Stickies 7.1d released
« Thread started on: May 7th, 2012, 12:22pm »

I've just released v7.1d of Stickies. More details can be found here:

http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/versions.html

This is a bugfix release, but it resolve one bug which could cause some data loss, so please do update at your earliest convenience.

Thanks,

Tom

Hello Tom,

I didn't see an answer to this last time -

Did the Multi-Undo feature make its way into the "trunk" and therefore this release or should I stay on my copy of 7.1b+?

No, that didn't make it in. The release snuck up on me - it wasn't something I was planning to do yesterday, but once I'd isolated the bug it needed putting out there.

If multi-level undo is important to you, stay where you are.

The current beta build is too unstable to release, but once it's settled down again, it will go out incorporating all the updates.

Yeah, Multi Undo is very nearly my signature feature I use.

Meanwhile a new wrinkle showed up. I have a multi desktop program called transdesk. I put most of my windows on one node and the big mess of open stickies on another one, so that back on the regular node I only have to deal with 3 stickies for that day in view.

But today as I tried to switch nodes too fast while the program was unloading its memorized stickies, I got some blue screens of death. I haven't seen those for years until this and an unrelated program last month did it too.

Today's events are on Windows 7 x64 if that helps.

I can explain why this isn't Stickies fault. A BSOD occurs when something has gone fundamentally wrong with the OS - at the kernel level. No application has access rights to reach that far down into your machine, so no application can directly cause a BSOD.

Drivers, however, operate at a more privileged level, so can cause a more serious crash. An app might ask a driver to do something, with the sound, display, a USB port or the like, which in turn trips a bug, but it's not the fault of the app, despite that being the start of the problem.

So ... try looking at updating your display drivers if this keeps happening?

Thanks for the note Tom.

That's a fair answer - Stickies was the "start" of the problem but not the "cause" of it.

However, I'll just note it and leave the driver to be for now, and just slow down a little.
