Will Stickies becomes slow when the database grows?

Hi there,

in the last time I hat the problem, that stickies becomes a littele bit slow.

Ok I confess, that I realy often use stickies, especially when I discuss with other people, I did like to write first the answer in Stickies and copy them then into the forum. So there did accumulate lots of dust in the Stickies database. But between all the rubbish there had also some important imformation left. So I had yesterday about 350 Stickies with sometimes more or less longer texts, and by searching for an information I thougt, it is time for a cleaning up, to delete the rubbish and to store important informations to a more defined place.

But by trying to delete the rubbish, Stickies 7.beta took up 4 or 5 Seconds sad(((.

Also to switch from a storefolder to the closedfolder, it took about 3 or 4 seconds sad.

Ok, I don't know exactly how many rubbishstickies I deleted ( I think about 100 or so), I'd hat a look into the Stickies-Forum an the updated to version 7.0a.

After that it seem, that Stickies accelerated so that deleting and switching takes about 1 to 2 seconds. Tow questions: Is this acceleration done to the update? Second question is, must I realy fear, that stickies becomes slow, wenn the database increases?

Thanks for feedback.

Have you tried "compact database" in tools in the manage stickies window?

There are two data files which Stickies uses. The first, stickies.ini, is read from the disk once when the app starts, and from then onwards is only ever written. The contents of this file are displayed in Desktop, Sleeping, Attached, Recurring and Closed.

The store.mdb on the other hand contains all the stickies which are in any category.

The Manage dialog can be slow when you've clicked on the Stored globe icon, and also when displaying the results of a search. When anything changes, then the search has to be performed again, so that the results list on the right is kept up to date.

Changing to the Closed dialog should be pretty quick - all the data is already in memory.

The things which I'd think might slow down are saving or loading if you have a lot of stickies ... but on a modern hard disk I don't think you'd notice it to be honest. Perhaps if you're saving to a pen drive?

Does this help explain at all?

Yes, but it doesn't help to accelerate.

Maybe the reason was, that my computer was during a big download, when I tried to clean up and reorganise my stickies.

I will observe that phenomenon.

Best regards.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for answer, but at the moment it doesn't explain, why stickies had become so slow. Maybe it was because I had running lots of programs in the background, maybe I was because I used the older version or due to have a lot of rubbish in my closed section, I don't know.

But even now, I can recongnise, that when I switch from the store icon to the closed icon, that it takes a short second to react, but I can live with that. I can also observe, that when I swicht von any icon to closed icon, that the cpu load rises for a short moment up to 70%.

I will observe that and tell more if I find something out.

Best regards.
