Good to hear....
But I found some minor important bugs while testing the application under good old windows xp.
The fixed version (now 1.2b) is available here:

Great, sorry I've not been testing as much as usual as I've had a few car issues to resolve, plus working on:

Anyway new version downloaded and I'll load up ASAP.

For all who are searching for a way to synchronize your stickies, I got something developed here:

It only works for those who are using Microsoft Exchange.

Is it compatible with Microsoft Exchange Server 2010?

Yes, 2007 and above.
Only 2000, 2003 Exchange is not supported since these Versions do not provide the interface neccessary.
I myself use it with Exchange 2010 SP2.

question ExSync development with new releases of Stickies?

Is anyone using ExSync Rel ?.?? with Stickies 9.0d successfully?

Does anyone know if SomethingCreative is keeping up with ExSync testing & development with new releases of Stickies? The last entry I read under Stickies>->Tools->ExSync was: "Also available is an alpha release of ExSync 1.3e (September 2015) which support Stickies 8. Find both downloads below."

A continued support statement should be published so that Users of Stickies can avoid potential issues.

question Sticky Sync w/ DropBox or Cloud Storage?

Has anyone devised a successful procedure for syncing Stickies using DropBox or other Cloud services (OneDrive, Google Drive, Cubby, etc.)?

The issue, as I understand it, is if the Stickies files are DropBox or a Cloud service than you should only execute the Stickies program on one machine at a time (not concurrently). Because Stickies constantly saves updates to a stickie as they are made (or very shortly thereafter). So, given this constant updating, if two Stickies are executing concurrently on two different machines to the Stickies data files on DropBox/Cloud Services, data corruption will likely occur. Is this Correct?

It'd be nice if Stickies that share data files could notify one another that there is a Stickies running on another machine that has exclusive control of the data files. Via networking OR some kind of a lock-indicator that would be set in a file that is examined by Stickies at start up i.e. upon startup of Stickies (with the same ini?) a file (.ini or other) is updated with ‘KEY=Date/Time/machineID’ which is compared to’ KEY=Date/Time/machineID’ in the stickies.bye file (or some other file when stickies.bye is written). Of course there needs to be a command to reset/clear the key should the a lock file(s) with KEY= indicators never was updated upon exit due to some networking or abnormal termination of Stickies (i.e. power failure, PC failure, etc.). As an Option, maybe a backup should be performed upon writing stickies.bye file as well upon exit. I did read “ when Stickies is closed, stickies.bye is written as a safety measure”. I’m not sure how to read the stickies.bye file, but it’s not a backup of the data files. Just some thoughts from an retired programmer.

The caveats you mention are part of the reason why I've never finished any sync code. Getting sync code to work correctly, and just silently and correctly handle any errors it runs into, is difficult.

The way I've approached the issue in the past is to write all the information needed into the ini file, and also make it available using the API. You can use the API to query the instance of Stickies (which if it's changed then there's a problem), get a list of all desktop notes, and then also the modification date/time of each note.

If you do that with two instances of Stickies, then you can merge the data. In fact, you could do that with Stickies on one side, and a central sync file on the other. Or a web service of some sort.

However, the real reason I've never released anything is stored notes. I learned a while back that releasing half-done code is a bad idea, as I can't ever pull any features without annoying people - see check boxes for the perfect example. That means any sync code I release would really need to handle everything, which includes stored notes. And images. And sleeping etc.

That all ends up pushing the project into the "too hard" camp. Besides, the app should really sync with an online service of some time, and that's a business I really do not want to get into.

Oh, yes, you're right. Stickies only reads its main data file stickies.ini once at app start. After that it assumes it's the only process making changes to it.
