What kind of message? A message produced by the application or an error message of the system ?

Does it happen when you start the application ?

I will try to figure out why. The autostart is set by using the registry as stickies does it too.

##
I just checked this version on 2 different computers and I do not get this error.

All I get is the 'Stickies ExSync has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem....' message. So not able to give a lot of detail I'm afraid.

mmh. Ok.

This version is the same as the last one that was working plus the auto start function, but this part is completely put in a try/catch block. So the application must not fail to start. (I hope)

I found the issue in the internet. This is exactly what the modification tries to do and the error you get:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6082982/c-sharp-application-crashes-on-start-up-windows-7

Obviously you need administration previleges to do changes to the registry.
I will try to find an other solution. Stay tuned....

Good news, I found the problem and solved it.

As usual things are pretty simple.
Basically there are two different domains in the registry to write such an auto start entry to.
The "LocalMachine" and the "CurrentUser" domain. Writing to the first one needs administration priviledges , writing to the second one not.

Setting the auto start entry under "LocalMachine" would make the application to start automatically no matter what user is logging in. If you write it under "CurrentUser" the application only automatically starts for the current user when logging in.

However, I could verify that using a limited user account on my computer since I tested it only with users that have administration priviledges and therefore caused no problems. The application crashed as you described it.

To make long things short, here is the new version with working auto run:

All understood smiley

Only one issue if I try and grab the new version I get:

"Such file does not exist or it has been removed for infringement of copyrights. "

Not a problem smiley

That loaded up perfectly so we'll see when I boot later (or more likely in the morning) we'll see if the auto-load works smiley

Good progress being made though! Got to say this is very much appreciated.

Well I booted the PC this morning and Stickies booted but alas not your component.

So it looks like the registry is not being set at all to auto-start.

I see. (Just to be sure, you ticked that auto start option in ExSync on the account tab ?) smiley

If you run "msconfig" the Exsync application should be in the list of applications to autostart. You also can check the registry under:
"HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
There must be an entry called "ExSync" with the current path of the exe as value.

However, I tried the auto start on 2 different computers with 2 different users (with and without administration rights). In addition to that I tried it from my workplace desktop and it worked everywhere so far.

Hello tekguru,

if you are interested, you can test the new version v1.2a:
http://depositfiles.com/files/hncqxay0x

Communication between ExSync and Stickies is now more reliable.
Moreover the stickies now change their color accordingly to the outlook category used (only if you use the category feature).

Hope it improves your life smiley Anyway, keep the old version just in case you run into some problems.

Beware that the new version does support only the newest Stickies version !! Older releases are not supported anymore.
