The install process certainly doesn't zap your data!

The upgrade consists of:

Closing Stickies
Copying a new exe over the old one
Running the new exe file

No data files are touched, and the v7.0 to v7.1 change is very light on making alterations to the data file.

Are you sure that in upgrading the date directory didn't get moved as you backed it up? Try searching your hard disk for all files named "stickies.ini" - how many are there? The one which the app is using currently will always be shown at the bottom of the About dialog.

If you run the stickies install program it *will* overwrite your current directory and it's data bye bye.

The workaround is as you have wrote to install to a temporary directory and then copy over only the EXE file but that's a bit of a hassle.

Just mentioning my experience.

It's a great program.

There are two reasons why I say the installer doesn't touch your data - one is that it has no knowledge of even what the Stickies data file is called. Its job is to deal with changing the exe, so that's all it does. I doesn't know about the Stickies data file, or how to look for it.

The other reason is that if the installer _did_ delete your data, this forum, and my inbox would be flooded with people complaining about it, and they're not. You're the only person who has reported an error, which is why I think something else has gone wrong.

It's not the installer which caused the problem.

FWIW, i just installed 7.1a over the previous beta and no data disappeared. Tom is right.

Thanks for your continued efforts, Tom. Love stickies.
