xx Stickies 7.1a released
« Thread started on: Dec 13th, 2010, 3:43pm »

I've also updated the web site design, updated ZBar, Birthday Reminder and Caffeine re-written the skin browser, and added a new Stickies tool, "Stamper" and updated "Scoop"!

To see the changes to Stickies, click here:

http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/versions.html

The new tool Stamper, and updated tool Scoop are here:

...or go straight to the download page here:

Hope you like it!

I have problems reading the new webpage in firefox only setting the BGCOLOR=FFFFFF in the Source code gave it the same look as rendered by Chrome.

I guess if the color is not defined in the code it will use a default color that depends on the skin or theme used in the browser.

I do like the new look of the web site design. Great job!

Unlike amy, every web page in the web site renders exactly the same for me, both in MS Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

Regards,
John

PS: Default settings in both browsers and no skins used.

Can anyone else report having this problem?

I've just tried the site in Chrome, IE and FF on the PC, and Chrome, Safari and FF on the mac, and on all of those, the text is black, and the background is white.

You'll notice that although there is no BODY BGCOLOR set, there are TD BGCOLOR elements set.

Firefox will default to" browser.display.background_color" when no color background is defined.
By default this is set to FFFFFF but can be changed by the theme used ( or the user ).

Opera defaults to OS systemcolors when no BG colorcode is set.

Tweaking the Page source gives the correct background in Opera/Firefox.

Hi Tom,

Scoop seems to be version 1.0, not updated in the downloads.

Thanks for making such great software free!

Nighted, thanks, it was v1, I've replaced the zip file with v2 now.

Amy, thanks for explaining it to me - you should find it fixed now? Strike another blow at the way CSS is implemented in different browsers - I spotted that FF also doesn't show some yellow table border lines which do show in IE, Chrome and Safari. Grrr. Now if only I didn't hand code my HTML, the fix would have been in one place in a content management system rather than in many files in multiple directories!

Thanks for letting me know it was wrong,

Tom

Using firefox detailed page source info it makes it clear the page is rendered in Quirky's mode .

update 19122010

screenshot firefox amazing Web Developer add-on (that also will validate css and html to WC3 standards):

It's a good point you make about CSS validation, and so I ran the site through a validation tool, and found a missing <TD> which was causing trouble with a lack of space around the top menus. The site has been updated now, so should be better.

I'm a brand new user of Stickies and am finding it an excellent piece of software.

However, I have one small problem: the colour and form of the icon appearing in the SysTray is almost identical to that of another very useful piece of software called "PeerBlock" which I also run....and the two can easily be confused.

Is it possible to change either the design of colour of the SysTray Stickies icon?

Cheers

You need the latest program version for this option i think.

Tom, I have updated today to the last version of stickies (me and colleagues are using it since five or more years), and find several new tools that seems to be very usefull, in the next day I will try it....

Just as a comment/sugestion, for the next version, could it be a way to access this tools from the system try icon menu? I meant, today to run Scanner or Scop, I has to go to Program Files\Stickies\Tools, and run it, or, made a shortcut on the desktop or start menu.

Regards, and thanks for this great program.

I can tell you why this hasn't already been added - as soon as I put code in to do this, then Stickies would be capable of launching arbitrary code. It might start an app called "scoop.exe" but if that file was replaced, then Stickies would have played a part in allowing unauthorised code to run on your system.

I decided to stay well away from that area, but just not added functionality to allow launching exes from the app.

Is a good answer from the security point of view smiley

Maybe you could add to the installer the options to include all this small apps and create shortcuts on the start menu.

I has create a folder on the start menu to include all the apps

Is there anyway to upgrade to 7.1A without completely wiping out all previous stickies.

I always back up before any installation so I was ok but currently Stickies 7.1A wipes everything out.

Not so friendly install.
