Happy Birthday Stickies

Today, Stickies is ten years old. v1 of the app was "released" to a few people where I worked ten years ago on the 16th October, 1999.
Of course, I'm celebrating by releasing v7 of the app. Go to the web site to download it. Perhaps I should have made it v10 instead
These are some of the milestones from the last ten years of Stickies:
16/10/1999 - version 1 released 07/12/1999 - deleted stickies section introduced 11/01/1999 - can now alter a sticky's size (at all) 26/01/1999 - options dialog (with about three options) 14/02/2000 - v2, networking introduced. These are very first network stickies ever sent - back when there was no way of telling who sent you the note (notice that it was February 14th):
This seems to work!!!!1 Well, does it owrk or not? Hello good point... yes this is from me (chris) Great Mate! Who's a pretty boy then? Polly want a cracker? "" BRILL! FFaabbuulloouuss I'm watching you . . . . . This is so great thanks. Whats you favourite scarry movie? Be my Valentine !!!!! To infinity and beyond !!!!! Sticks and Stones may break my bones But whips and chains excite me!!!!!! It must be your lucky day.... Hello from me... Tommy R
16/06/2000 - email support 20/09/2000 - v2.3 released 13/02/2001 - stickies server created 04/04/2001 - printing support added 23/05/2001 - v3.0 released 03/06/2001 - sleeping stickies added 23/07/2001 - skins (a more limited version of skins than is current) 20/09/2001 - stickies can be transparent 20/11/2001 - Save As, multiple language support 21/09/2002 - v4 released 08/04/2003 - v4.5 released - rolled stickies, PPC transfer, recurring sleeping 26/10/2004 - v5 - RTF (multiple fonts on a sticky), Palm transfer, MAPI mailing 22/01/2007 - v6 - Skins, Manage, Locked, bulk move, attaching, GPO, Googles, 16/01/2008 - v6.5 - API 28/08/2008 - v6.7 - bulk commands 16/10/2009 - v7.0 - image stickies
Here's to another ten years! If you asked me ten years ago whether I'd still be maintaining the app in ten years, I'd have said "no way". If you asked me now whether I'll be still doing it in another ten, I'd say "no way", so perhaps I actually will.
Stickies has made me international friends, and the networking feature played a role in my meeting my wife. It's also helped out with the flirting stage of a number of other relationships I'm aware of!
Thanks to all the people who have given their time over the years - the translators, people who have suggested features, friends who have helped with coding problems, created skins, those who have helped with the design of Stickies, and created icons. Your help is much appreciated.
Quite frequently people write to tell me how old they are and how at their advanced years, Stickies helps them be less forgetful. I always tell them it's a human thing to forget stuff, and it's perhaps only more switched on people who work this out, and do something about it, like running Stickies.
The most frustrating mails I receive are those when people have lost data. I don't like to think that anything I've done has lost people information. I know how irritated I'd be if my stickies disappeared. This is why I've coded a recovery function into Stickies v7, to try to help with this.
The most rewarding mails are not only those which tell me someone has made a donation (!) but those where someone tells me how they use the app. I can't stand behind Stickies users and see how they use it, so that's the next best thing.
Thanks everyone, hope you like the new release,
Tom

Congrats to stickies.
Since I'm not long time user of stickies, I can't write about the former times. But now, Stickis has the potential to become a realy good outliner - maybe this usage should be mentioned in the helpfile.
The advantage of stickies compared to other outliners is, that you start enter information at that moment, when it's needed whitout much fuss and you can close your note every time without fear losing information. And later - after entered information, you can think about, where into the storedtree you will place the note to.
That is a big advantage to other outliners, where you first have to navigate to the folder in a tree, were you want to place the note and just then be able to enter informaion.
So the most importante improvement for me are the possibility to build an hirachical store-tree an to organize the information by drag & drop.
Best regards Sandiger.
